How do I configure the voicemail number in the client in multi-location scenarios?

What is this about?

The following section explains how to correctly configure the number for the personal voicemail in multi-location environments.

Specifically, this concerns the number that can be found in the client configuration under the "Voicemail" tab:

This number also appears in the forwarding dropdown:

Which number is displayed here depends on whether:

1. A central forwarding number is used that is uniform for all XPhone users.
2. A shared forwarding number is used for all XPhone users of the same site (keyword: voicemail port).
3. A "personal" forwarding number is used that starts with a prefix, followed by the user’s extension.

The decision as to which variant the XPhone Server uses is made in the voicemail telephony gateway routing:

In this case, both a prefix and different forwarding numbers for two sites are configured.

What needs to be configured?

To influence the above-mentioned areas in the client, the parameters "ClientVoicemailNumberType" and "ClientVoicemailNetworkPrefix" explained in this section are required.

ClientVoicemailNumberType

There are two new options for the ClientVoicemailNumberType parameter. Requirement: version V9.0.229 or newer.

The parameter is set under System Settings → UM → Voicemail → General

ClientVoicemailNetworkPrefix

The value of this parameter can be freely defined and represents a list of the main numbers of the sites.

Which scenarios are covered?

Networked PBX systems

The Munich users should receive this voicemail number:

The Frankfurt users should receive this voicemail number:

It is actually intended – due to the networking – that both Munich and Frankfurt users are redirected to a Munich voicemail number.

Configuration:

• Set the ClientVoicemailNumberType to value 3 or 4.
• For "ClientVoicemailNetworkPrefix", enter a list of the main numbers of the networked PBX systems, e.g. +49697755,+4144999999

Example:

We have two locations: Munich and Frankfurt.

In the UM gateway, Munich is configured: +49898866
In the list "ClientVoicemailNetworkPrefix", only Frankfurt is entered: +49697755

During processing, these two main numbers are used in the following order:
+49898866, +49697755

We now have two users from these two locations
User 1 from Munich: +49(89)8866-555
User 2 from Frankfurt: +49(69)7755-444

In the UM gateway, the Munich location is configured:
Port: 139
Prefix: 28

The display and forwarding (long, i.e. ClientVoicemailNumberType=3) for these users therefore results in:
User 1 from Munich: +49898866-28 555
User 2 from Frankfurt: +49898866-28 444

Non-networked PBX systems – WITH voicemail prefix

The Munich users should receive this voicemail number:

The Frankfurt users should receive this voicemail number:

Configuration:

• Set the ClientVoicemailNumberType to value 5 or 6.
• For "ClientVoicemailNetworkPrefix", enter a list of the main numbers of the non-networked PBX systems, e.g. +49697755,+4144999999

Example:
We have two locations, Munich and Frankfurt, and the following two users:
User 1 from Munich: +49(89)8866-555
User 2 from Frankfurt: +49(69)7755-444

In the UM gateway, the dialing parameters from Munich are configured:

The prefix 28 is configured in the voicemail service:

In the advanced voicemail settings, only Frankfurt is entered for "ClientVoicemailNetworkPrefix":

During processing, the two main numbers from Munich and Frankfurt are used in the following order: +49898866, +49697755

With ClientVoicemailNumberType=5, you get:
User 1 (Munich): +49898866-28 555
User 2 (Frankfurt): +49697755-28 444

With ClientVoicemailNumberType=6, you get:
User 1 (Munich): 28 555
User 2 (Frankfurt): 28 444

Non-networked PBX systems – WITHOUT voicemail prefix

The Munich users should receive this voicemail number:

The Frankfurt users should receive this voicemail number:

Configuration:

• The voicemail ports of the respective locations are configured in their voicemail settings and added to the telephony gateway routing.
• Set the ClientVoicemailNumberType to value 5 or 6.
• For "ClientVoicemailNetworkPrefix", enter a list of the main numbers of the non-networked PBX systems, e.g. +49697755

Example:
In this case, no voicemail prefix was configured. Instead, the goal is to work with different central voicemail numbers at the two locations.

The different voicemail numbers are entered accordingly in the voicemail templates for the respective locations:

In the advanced settings for voicemail, only Frankfurt is entered for “ClientVoicemailNetworkPrefix”:

During processing, the two main numbers from Munich and Frankfurt are used in this order:
+49898866, +49697755

With ClientVoicemailNumberType=5, you get:
User 1 (Munich): +49898866-970
User 2 (Frankfurt): +49697755-980

With ClientVoicemailNumberType=6, you get:
User 1 (Munich): 970
User 2 (Frankfurt): 980
